MSc Chemical Engineer, MSc Applied Informatics
Charles Markessini was born in 1979 in Thessaloniki, north Greece.
He has completed his Chemical Engineering studies at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Greece, in 2002. In his final thesis he studied the design of a pilot unit producing urea-formaldehyde resins under continuous flow conditions.
In 2007 he has completed a two-year master’s course in “Applied Informatics, specialization in Computer Systems” at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki. The subject of his final thesis was the “Application of artificial intelligence techniques in the field of aminoplastic resins for the production of composite wood panels”.
From June 2005 onwards he is working at CHIMAR HELLAS SA, an industrial company based in Thessaloniki, Greece. CHIMAR provides technology for the production of resins and chemicals and their application in the wood-based panel industry.
Charles holds the position of CHIMAR R&D Director since 2010. His main activities include the participation, coordination and follow up of field R&D projects, the follow up of industrial manufacture of resins based on formaldehyde, melamine, phenol and urea and their application in the industrial production of composite wood panels (particleboards, MDF, plywood, OSB) and laminating papers. Charles also has important R&D and industrial expertise on bio-based binder technologies all over the world. He is the author and co-author in scientific publications and paper presentations at international events and co-inventor in patents of the field.
